Whether attending a hockey game or public skating, stepping on the ice for a skating class or curling match, remember to dress warmly!
The average temperature in the stands is between 40-50 degrees and the on-ice temperature is between 30-40 degrees.
Skaters, class participants and curlers should dress in warm, loose-fitting layers, long socks and gloves. Warmth & comfort is key!
Figure skates and hockey skates are available to rent for $3.00 a pair. We also offer a Skate Rental Punch Card, which is 10 rentals for $20.00.
The smallest size we offer is a toddler size 6 and the largest size we carry is a men's size 14. Our skates are by whole sizes (no half sizes).
Skates should always fit snuggly to your foot, with little to no wiggle room at the toes.
Figure skates run pretty true to your shoe size. If your normal size is a half size, round down rather than up. For example, if your shoe size is a 71/2, round down to a size 7 instead of up to a size 8.
Hockey skates run big, so it is common when renting a hockey skate to request one, sometimes even two, sizes smaller than your acutal shoe size.
Proper fit and tying of your skates is critical to you having a successful skating outing!
Skates should fit snuggly around your foot, with little to no wiggle room at your toes. To ensure the best fit, we recommend wearing one pair of long socks. Thick socks or wearing two pairs of socks makes your foot bigger than it really is and does not allow for your skate to fit as snuggly as possible.
Follow the diagram and guidlines on the right for proper tying of your skates:
Prior to getting on the ice, walk around the lobby in your skates to get used to the feel of them and to balancing in them. If you are having a hard time walking, if your ankles are bending & do not feel supported, tighten your laces. If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to ask our staff. We are here to help you!
Start slowly along the wall. Put one hand on the ledge and the other hand out to the other side for balance. Try marching with small steps to get going. Move off of the wall once you feel comfortable. And remember....HAVE FUN!
